DIY Kate Spade Mug

As I mentioned in my Tuesday Top 10 post, I’m a huge fan of Kate Spade… well, at least most of her stuff (sometimes her necklines are too high and hemlines are too low for my liking… I love my legs!) But as a college student, I can’t usually afford to pay big bucks for little things, such as this polka dot mug:

This mug retails for $20, which isn’t that much (relatively speaking) but is a LOT for just another mug when the cupboards in my dorm are already full with them. So, with a plain white mug that I got at Goodwill for $0.99 last summer, I decided to make my own! The stripe at the top appeared more pink on my phone screen so I went with a hot pink (oops!) but in hindsight I actually like the pink a lot better! It’s much more girly and me 🙂

It only took about an hour to make when all was said and done! I used oil based Sharpie markers as I’ve found that they tend to stay on mugs more permanently than the original ones and then baked the mug at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. The end result? A Kate Spade mug for 1/20 of the cost!

I’ll be doing a lot more DIYs this weekend and will share pictures of those when I’m done as well! It’s a great way to pass the time after P heads to bed every night… 3 hour time differences are weird to get used to!
