I came across this project in a group of bloggers’ Anthropologie Knock-Off Week on Pinterest! Here’s a link to the original project:
And… my interpretation of the project!
For the most part, I followed the directions exactly as Designer Trapped in a Lawyer’s Body did with a couple exceptions. First, the plaque is indeed ceramic and only costs $3.99 at Michael’s… surprising, right? The only downside is it’s unfinished and I cannot stand the feel of unbaked ceramics. So, I fixed that by using Mod Podge to completely cover the plaque before I did anything else (it did make the chalkboard paint a little harder to get dense enough but in the end, it was totally worth it.) Also, I didn’t switch out the string for wire and just freehanded “take note” in cursive instead of the typewriter-esque font that the Anthropologie version has. Cursive and twine is just more me π
On Designer Trapped in a Lawyer’s Body, she recommends just painting the chalk paint on without using painter’s tape. I would definitely recommend doing that… believe me, I’m someone who ALWAYS paints inside the lines, but this is one project that really looks better without things done absolutely perfectly.
I have more DIYs coming so stay tuned! I’m working on redoing my desk space at home for summer (and for chicer, more grownup desk accessories for my first place with P… which will hopefully come sooner rather than later with how things are looking π ) so lots more desk projects are coming! I’m also in the process of redoing my vanity to house my makeup (and get rid of all my middle school jewelry. I can’t believe I still have it!) so that will be a fun project as well! It’s really fun and exciting to be using things I mostly already have to add a more mature vibe to my room keeping in mind that a lot of the pieces will be classy enough for my first place with P. Considering a year ago I had no clue that this is where we’d be, I’m excited for this next year and that we could be living together in the not too distant future… relatively speaking, of course. Things feel like they might be starting to fall into place, at least for a second, and it’s so so nice! π
I just love how yours turned out! Great idea about covering it in Mod Podge. The feel of unbaked ceramic is kind of terrible. Thanks so much for linking to my blog!
Thank you and you’re welcome! I loved your knock off week and I’m excited to try more of the projects now that midterms are over π
