I can’t believe this picture is already a year old and how much has happened since last Memorial Day. Last Memorial Day was my first trip to South Carolina to see P and our first real time together since before he left for boot camp. I remember instantly falling in love with the scenery (and especially the trees) down here but never in a million years did I think that one year later, I’d be finishing out my fifth month of being married to P and living in this beautiful place nearly 3000 miles from home.
I still do miss home a lot from time to time but I know we’ll be back which makes it a lot easier to focus on just enjoying the here and now and all these once-in-a-lifetime experiences we’re getting to share in the South. This weekend I’m so thankful for all the time I’ve gotten with P this year so far and especially the fact that come Monday, we won’t have to say goodbye again for awhile. These last 5 months have been such a blessing knowing we won’t be saying see-you-later’s on a regular basis for at least the rest of 2015 if not longer. We’ve been incredibly blessed with time together these last 4 months too with P being on hold and having such short hours. You hear about how bad nuke hours are everywhere from schooling through the fleet and these 4 months of hold have been such a gift (even though I spent most of it working on school and both of us got our wisdom teeth out… in sickness and in health though, right?) Never would I have guessed that we would get this much time together while he was in the Navy! We truly are lucky and blessed.
We’re close to having spent 150 days together this year which is already about 100 more than we got last year… and there’s still so much of the year left!
So, what will we be doing this Memorial Day Weekend? Relaxing, enjoying time together, working on our home, taking Roscoe for long walks and his first trip to a dog park, and anything that does NOT make it feel like last Memorial Day, our first hardest goodbye. We’ve been talking a lot about ideas for our apartment so maybe we’ll crack down on planning some of those out since I’ll have a lot of time to work on DIYs next month! Focusing on making our apartment a home is so much fun and definitely makes all of this feel more real. It’s still hard to believe sometimes, even almost 5 months later.
I will definitely be sharing our apartment more as P and I finish projects on it! I hope everyone is having a good weekend so far!
